Joe Giambrocco
March 15, 1914 - February 7, 1994
Occupation: Food Wholesaler
Portrait of a Man and his success....

In 1933, a 19-year-old Joe Giambrocco quit his five dollar a week job, as a printer's apprentice, to go into business for himself as a produce peddler.  He bought a 1930 Fargo truck, filled it with produce bought at the Cherry Creek Market and began a door to door route.  The first day of business, he sold one head of lettuce for eight cents, delivered it to the seventh floor at Ninth and Grant (where the elevator was temporarily out of order.)From street peddling, Giambrocco Produce moved to the street stalls of the Denargo Market and later to the wooden stalls.  In 1940, Giambrocco Produce moved to it's first building at 901 Denargo Market.  Over the next decade the business continued to grow and another move was made to 1949 Denargo Market.

Produce was the only inventory carried until 1957 when a few selected canned goods were added.  By 1972, growth had again demanded more room for the operation and the move to our present location at 3755 Wazee was made.

When Joe's son Gary Giambrocco purchased the company in 1985, the trade name "Giambrocco Food Service" was adopted to more exemplify the type of operation we have  grown into.  Our primary customer base is small restaurants, most of which specialize in Italian, Mexican, or oriental cuisine.

A devastating fire in April of 1998 burnt 64,000 sq. ft. of our warehouse.  We lost $1.2 million in product, a 1998 International truck, numerous offices and considerable warehouse equipment.  After almost two years of reconstruction, we rebuilt a beautiful new facility which boasts three state of the art ripening rooms,  mechanical shop, four separately controlled coolers, a 3,330 sq ft freezer, and additional dry storage spanning from 36th Street to 38th Street on Wazee making a grand total of 101,500 sq. ft. of warehouse under one roof.

The company is still family owned and operated with the third and fourth generation at the helm.
